Using a stay-wet palette

Basic materials

A3 stay-wet palette. If you don’t have a stay-wet palette you can make a home made version, details below.

Step 1. Home made stay wet palette
You can make your own stay wet palette by finding a shallow resealable tub.

Step 2. Add Kitchen roll
Placing a few layers of kitchen roll on the bottom, covering with water as the video shows above

Step 3. Add Greaseproof paper
Then placing a sheet of greaseproof paper on top.

    Thank you Will. another very good lesson for beginners.
    I do use the stay wet palette, but instead buying the special paper, that costs! I just use the kitchen stuff : cleaning cloth or for dusting ( they are usually good sizes and enough to cover the base of palette) and greaseproof paper( light colour or it is similar to tracing paper). I wet the clothes, put in a palette, and then paper on the top of it. The paint in this palette stay for days even for weeks.

    I’ve been using a Glad-lock container as a palette. It’s a bit reverse, but I take the cover of the Glad-lock container as my palette (it’s the flat part) and use the bottom to seal it. I spray the paint with a squirt of water and seal it until I can get back to painting. I’ll have to try this method though for some projects as my Glad-lock container is never large enough. As you mentioned, I seem to always need more space for mixing.
